The Mid Kent Marriage index covers a wide area including the Cranbrook & Romney Marsh areas

http://www.woodchurchancestry.org.uk/midkentmarriages/index.php

There are certainly some WESTONS & STRINGERS around.  AUSTEN is a very common name in the weald of Kent.

There some some later STRINGERS buried in New Romney but no AUSTENS or WESTONs among the MIs

http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Libr/MIs/MIsNewRomney/01.htm

Entry 515 among the Tenterden MIs:

http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Libr/MIs/MIsTenterden/MIsTenterden.htm

mentions a Thomas WESTON (died 1819, aged 73 years) who had children called Elizabeth Hyland, Harriot, Jane, Thomas and John Tempest.  So Thomas & Jane could be family names but they're fairly common.

The New Romney Tithe award schedule

http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Maps/NER/02.htm

 shows

Thomas WESTON
John Tempest WESTON

occupying land in New Romney.

This is 3 or 4 decades later than the diary though.

According to Pigot's Directory of 1840

the following WESTONS were living in the Tenterden area:

WESTON Miss, East Cross

WESTON John T esq, Boars Isle

WESTON Mrs Thomas, Kench Hill

no mention of a William.  ???

This is the latest reply from John

Hello- many thanks for that information. My man is almost certainly Thomas Weston below- he mentions sons Thomas and John, and the name Harriet and his sister Jane .Just need to tie up the ends!
Kind regards,
