Lisson Grove
« on: Sunday 22 November 09 15:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking at Portman Buildings, Lisson Grove, Marylebone. Have no trouble with the 1891 census on find my past, but however I enter it for the 1901, 1911 census, I just cannot find it.

I know it was built sometime in the 1880s and still there in the 1950s, when I enter it as above it shows not found, when I enter Lisson Grove or Broadley terrace it doesn't show Portman Buildings, any advice would be appreciated.

Hi David,
If you put just Marylebone in Residential place on the 1911 and 1901 censuses on Findmypast (addresses)
a list of streets and buildings will come up.
On the 1911 ... Portman Buildings Lisson Grove
On the 1901... under Other establishments, keep scrolling down for different  numbers.

best wishes

Just to finish off this topic, here's a picture of Portman Buildings.

Built in 1887 at the corner of Lisson Grove and Broadley Terrace, they were demolished 100 years later in 1987.

Hi Cathy and David
I too had family living at Portman Buildings, Lisson Grove.  My Rainforth family lived at 253 then 256 Portman Buildings having moved in it seems when it was brand new, and were still there in at least 1911.
I would love to see the picture you have of it David but it won't work on this website.  Would it be possible to send it to me if I give you my email address?
With best wishes
Sue
