I want an All in one tree but where ??
« on: Saturday 21 November 09 11:23 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Have been hunting round the internet trying to find a programme that will enable me to do an All in One tree with everyone on it.
I used to use Family Tree maker 2005 with great suscess. Unfortunately, I have mislaid the disc to it and when we got a new computer(after being off line for a year) ,we decided to put the Family Tree Maker 2008 in .
It has been a bit of a learning curve and I don't find it as user freindly as the old one. what's worse is I cannot print an All in One tree on it. which is a nuisance as I liked to see all the siblings ect on it.
Anyone got any suggestions for buying a new tree maker programme that has the All in One facility.
Of course, it could be that my 2008 programme has this facilty in it but me being a bit of a technophobe , haven't found it.
All suggestions greatly appreciated.
Regards

FTM 2006 was the last version to feature the All In One tree. Both it and the 2005 version are still available from My History/TWR and on eBay.

An alternative is Genbox which can be downloaded to try before you buy.

Thanks Graham
Are the 2005 and 2006 compatable with Widows Vista ,if so I will go and have a look on ebay.
I have turned the house upside down to try and find my disc for the 2005 but I think the loft goblins have had it.
Now I know I am not going mad with the 2008 version.Phew.
Thanks again for your prompt reply.

I've run FTM 2006 on a Vista laptop with no problems.

FTM 2006 or earlier, Genbox, Family Historian, GenoPro, these are the only programs that will form an all in one tree

I've looked further into this and found that the Extended Family Chart in FTM 2009/2010 (but not 2008) can be set to include everyone on the file. It does it in a slightly different manner in that it shows some people twice rather than produce a massive chart with a lot of white space by inserting those people's ancestors where they occur in the chart.

Another program which can be used to create an All In One chart, but needs significant manual effort, is TreeDraw. IMO the manual effort is worth it for the resultant layout.

I now have the 2006 programme and it feels better for me. I just know what I am doing with it. well, most of the time.
