BRADSHAW
« on: Friday 20 November 09 23:35 GMT (UK) »
looking for information on the Bradshaw family.  Bartholomew Bradshaw born 1837 in Limerick.  He later moved across waters to Hull, which is were my information starts.  I want to know more about his time in Ireland.  His parents, siblings.  His father was called John Bradshaw.

do you know anything more about Bartholomew's father (e.g. occupation), or where in Co. Limerick the Bradshaw's came from ?

There are some Co. Limerick parish records on the Irish Family History Foundation pay-website (www.irish-roots.ie) - but I dont see any baptism listing for a Bartholomew Bradshaw around the right time.

His father was a labourer.  There's a rumour his father came from Dublin. Bartholomew was born in Limerick as I have seen it on census.

I've seen a couple of records that match John, one says he moved to London another says canada (i think).  Not sure which is which though.

many businesses, trades & occupations can be very useful as they appear in old street listings and trade directories (e.g. Slater's Thom's etc) - unfortunately labourers are not included in these, so no help from that angle.

The problem with Bartholomew's birth is that it is before Civil registration started in 1864 - so to progress you will need to know a location for his birth, ideally a parish, and his religion.

He was irish catholic, thats all I really know about him to be honest.  I have all the information I need for when he was living in Hull.  I find the irish records difficult and have come to a brick wall with this one.

there are details of the Co. Limerick Catholic parishes on the Irish Times website - see :

  http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/limerickwrc.htm  (west)
  http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/limerickerc.htm   (east)

Most of these records are available on microfilm in the National Library, Dublin but the only Co. Limerick parish details that I know of online are the IFHF website.( mentioned earlier)

do any of the later census returns show a more precise birth place than just 'Limerick ?
