Joseph Hill (no S) widower married Ann Sargeant spinster 18th June 1817 at St Marylebone.

He signed his name without an S.

Are you sure you have the right man or do you know when the S got added?

I think this may be his 1st marriage

Parish of St Mary Paddington (not St James as this wasn't built until 1845)

Joseph Hill bachelor and Sarah Johnson widow 1st January 1804.

Joseph signs again with no S, se signs with a distinctive J & H which is why I think he's the same man as the previous marriage.

Maybe someone else will join in have a look and confirm the signatures.

Hi

What information does Joseph's 1819 baptism give about his father's occupation? The baptism should help in securing other possible siblings and therefore helping to confirm the 1817 and 1804 Middlesex marriages (and therefore someone who has lived in the same area of Middlesex for at least 13 years) with a baptism across the river Thames in Southwark to a Joseph and Ann Hill(s) since Hill/Hills is a relatively common surname.

Hi

So just to confirm you have a baptism at St George the Martyr Southwark in 1819 which reiterates the details given on the 1841 marriage about Joseph Hill(s) senior's occupation and that the baptism states the son of Joseph and Ann Hill(s)?

The 1841 marriage (30th May) states Joseph Hills was of full age at the time of his marriage and was a carman of John Street Stepney and his father was also called Joseph and was a labourer. Joseph Hills junior signed with a cross - unable to sign his name (unlike the Joseph Hill of Marylebone who signed both times on his marriage which would be unusual if he actually were just a labourer).

On which censuses have you found Joseph Hills who married Ann Darnell in 1841 to confirm the 1819 baptism at St George the Martyr Southwark was the same Joseph Hill(s) who married in Stepney Middlesex in 1841?
Have you a birth certificate for any of their children confirming Ann Darnell's maiden name?
