« on: Monday 16 November 09 18:09 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me find information regarding her and/or Peter? Guessing she was born early 1800s, died 1849. He emigrated 1857 with children to USA.

do you know anything more about Peter ? ... parents, trade / occupation, part of county Dublin he lived in etc..

to try to trace his birth or marriage will require parish records, so you would need to try and find out his religion and resident parish, to search for these details (if they still exist)

Peter Casserly, b.abt 1812 as he & all but one children & wife emigrated to USA on The Jermiah Thompson arr N.Y. 29 Sept 1857. Wife, Maria Elizabeth Gorman died 1849 & said to buried in "Glaseyvon" (town or cemetery being Glasnevin perhaps);daughter died about 6 months previous. Peter was likely a solicitor based on Index to Griffiths Valuation,1848-1864 when I searched for Peter Casserleigh...Cavan county perhaps. Index has location, Dublin, Dublin City, North Stafford St. Dublin City Directory 1850 gives address for Peter Casserly at 16 Stafford & Dollymount, James Cassidy 29 Thomas St. & Eliabeth Casserly, 182 Great Britain St., Elizabeth 50 Rogersons Quay. Carnegie-Chamberlain Dublin City Directory listed gave Peter at 16 Stafford & Dollymount ("solicitor") as well
James, 1 ("barrister-Trinity term 1829)...address listed vacant...from Law Directory.Index further has a Peter Casserly, Dublin,Clontarf, Greenlanes Back-Lane. Ship manifest lists him 45, attorney, left Liverpool, destination Canada along with Peter 15, Susan 7, Maria (my relative) 14, Bernard 13  & John 12. Appears that James Bernard abt 20 did not sail. He and children,at least young Peter, were in Lincoln,  Logan county, Illinois USA. Some changed spellings to Casserleigh and Cassarly, possibly Casselly. May have been Catholic, as grandaughter's notes said buried in Catholic Cemetery, Lincoln. Casserly & Gorman said to have married, parish of St.James, Dublin 1836. A Daniel Gorman was found to be in/at the Greelanes. The elder Peter said to have died within 6 months-year after emigrating. An 1860 Census for Lincoln, Illinois documents a Bernard Casselly, 16 living with an attorney. MANY THANKS, marty ... gggrandaughter

Glasnevin Cemetery was opened in 1832 and they now have records available online. At present only data after 1898 is included but they plan to add the older data - which might include details for Maria.  http://www.glasnevintrust.ie/genealogy/

Records for the RC parish of St. James are available on microfilm in the National Library and in the Pearse St. Library in Dublin. Some of the records for this parish are included in the online database on the Dublin City Library website at : http://dublinheritage.ie/index.php I dont see a listing for the marriage of Peter & Maria. There is an earlier Casserly marriage listed in a different parish :

 Thomas Casserly       Maria Dillon
 date : 21-04-1754
 parish : St Andrews

plus two Baptism's in st. Mary's Parish that look like they could match :

 21-12-1837     Casserly     James Bernard
 29-09-1839     Casserly     Susannah

do any the details you have (e.g. census returns, death certs etc.) show a detailed place of birth for Peter ?

some details from various directories :

Pettigrew & Oulton - 1845

Casserley Peter, attorney, 16 Stafford st

Slater's 1846

Casserley James, barrister, 1 Nelson st
Casserley Peter, attorney, 16 Stafford st

Thom's 1850

Peter Casserley, attorney, 16 Stafford st - res. Dollymount
also listed under Clontarf/Dollymount as Peter Casserly esq

Thom's 1852

 J. Casserly, barrister, 93 Upr Dorset Street
Miss. Casserly, 36 Lwr Mountpleasant Ave., Rathmines
Peter Casserly, solicitor, 16 Stafford St & Dollymount

Barrister section - J. Casserly, Dorset St. - called to the bar 1839

Thank you ever so much. Baptismal dates seem to be appropriate for birth dates for James Bernard, 8 Dec 1837 & Susan Elizeth 21 Sept 1839. James Bernard WAS NOT on ship manifest. I did find a James b.1837 on the ship City of Limerick who emigrated 24 Apr 1865. Found a persons note dated 2001 which to me suggested that a Peter came from Cavin county (her gggrand peter & ggrand John). Further found in the Irish Records Index 1500-1920, a Maria (Mg)Gorman, 1799, St. Andrew, Dublin. I'll keep looking into my files but I believe I have exhausted the info, except for The daughter of Maria who also died in 1849 named Elleanor. With your help perhaps we'll solve this yet. Apparently the obituary information contained no information other than what you sent. Stay in touch. Thanks again, Marty

one more Casserly item for you from Freeman's :

date :  1 April 1853

"March 30, at Dollymount, Clontarf, of hooping cough, aged five years, Ellen, the youngest daughter of Peter Casserly, Esq"

no sign that I can see of a marriage notice.
