*COMPLETED* Edward Cole-death when/ where?
« on: Sunday 15 November 09 18:19 GMT (UK) »
Edward Cole b about 1857 in Norwich, moved to London about 1893. Not found on 1901 census but his wife Edith Harriet recorded as "wife". On his daughter Violet's marriage cert in 1906 he is stated as deceased but I can't find his death recorded anywhere. Can anyone please help?.

Hi,
There is a record of an Edward Cole (born around 1857) having died in Bromley in 1904.
I may be wrong, but if it's the same chap I've seen in the 1891 census that puts his birth at around 1854.
The was also an Edward Cole born around 1854 who died in Chelsea in 1903.
However, I can't find a plain Edward Cole near Bermondsey.

Andrew

Hello Andrew,
Thank you very much for your help. I think the Edward Cole who died in Bromley in 1904 is probably the right person and I will investigate this further.

That 1901 Edward could seem possible, having gone from being a licensed victualler in Heigham in 1891 to being a brewer's labourer.

However, that Edward Cole married Mary Slater in Erpingham reg dist (which covers Antingham) in June quarter 1890, and they were in Maidstone in 1891. His birth was reg in Erpingham reg dist in 1863.

Our Edward Cole married Edith Harriet Johnson in King's Lynn in 1882 (making her very young if she was 26 in 1891).

He seems most likely to have been the son of Elijah (consistently mistranscribed as Elizah), a beer house keeper in Heigham in 1871, and Elizabeth, aged 4 in 1861 and 14 in 1871, so born 1856-57. There is no good match for that info in birth registrations ... Just trying to see whether he might have had a middle name, and what his accurate dob might be.

" unfortunately you have answered an old posting which has now been resolved."

?

Then please follow "site etiquette" and add the word "COMPLETE" to the beginning of the thread's title?

 :)

Cheers
