looking on Google maps Park St  Motherwell no 48 was probably around where the War memorial is at the junction of Coronation St ( which looks like it was a new build housing project in say the "thirties")
This post is a natural hand made product. The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws. Unfortunately my preferred method of writing (Parker Quink on Basildon Bond) cannot be used.

I actually stay near Broomhouse, as there is a place nearby where I eat with my family, also my brother had a flat on Hamilton road, The area is changed now as th M74 is next to it. Near to Broomhouse they have the Mount Vernon greyhound track, many people round that area had Greyhounds due to the track being local.
Check out the site here for Calderpark Zoo (Glasgow Zoo) gives some information on the area, as Broomhouse is part of the same area, you coulsd see some animals from Broomhouse.

PS: I work in Africa, and will be home the first week of March, If I remember I will take a picture of Broomhouse, PM, me in March to remind me.

Thank you to both.  I will be very grateful for a photo of Broomhouse John and I will try to remember to remind you in early March, if I don't hear back from you.

I'd be interested to know if the booklet etc that you have mention the miners houses at Broomhouse.  I have rellies who lived there in the early 1900s.

I'd be interested too!

I have one or two from Broomhouse and hundreds from Muirside & Muirhead, five minutes up the road where I presume 'The Baulks' is now.

Cammy and Anne:  The booklet does not have a particular section regarding the coal miners' housing arrangements, but the following sites will be of help I think.

Coal Mining History Resource Centre

The Lanarkshire Mining Industry

John:  You asked me to remind you to forward a picture of Broomhouse when you returned from Africa.  If you are not too busy, I would still very much appreciate any photos you can let me have.  Many thanks.

I was raised in broomhouse and stayed there from when I was born till I was about 15, my dad still stays there, he was even born there! We stayed in lusshill terrace. The book broomhouse a history was indeed written by Bill Brandon. He stayed across the road from us, and died several years ago, his wife still lives there. It was my mother who typed the book for him, she has a mention in the acknowledgements, about having to cope with 2 young children at the time of print, we are now 25 and 24! My dad has a copy of it somewhere, I will have to dig it out. Any questions you have regarding broomhouse let me know and I will try to answer them as best I can, I just hope people still read this thread as it seems to have been dormant for a while!
