Coleman/Lynn
« on: Saturday 14 November 09 11:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi, can anyone help me find a Ernest Edgar Alexander Coleman birth date in Lynn Norfolk. He tends to change his name around and on his marriage certificate uses Edgar Ernest A. Coleman. I have three dates for his birth, 1875 ( marriage certificate) 1878 ( 1901 census) and 1872 (1911 census). I have searched using all the usual sites , but no trace, many thanks Al.

The name on the marriage certificate is Thomas Coleman. On the 1911 Census he's staying at his son's lodgings, ( in Rotherham)his age is 56 making him born 1850 also in Lynn Norfolk, many thanks AL.

He's shown as Thomas' nephew in 1881  ??? (if it's the same Thomas)

Thanks for the replies, it throws up more mysteries, I presumed that when a Thomas Coleman was lodging with him in Rotherham, that was his Father as stated on the marriage certificate in 1901 , but if Edgar is his nephew, does that make Thomas his Uncle. I t does explain how he gets to Rotherham, but I still don't know his fathers name , many many thanks Al.

It would probably be worthwhile ordering the 1875 birth certificate to try to answer the question. He may, for example, have been illegitimate and falsely given Thomas (an uncle) as his father's name on the marriage certificate.
