Rochdale Cemetery
« on: Friday 13 November 09 14:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I'm just wondering whether any kind person would be going to Rochdale Cemetery, weather p[ermitting and would be willing to look for a grave and take a photo?

I've had some brilliant help from the ladies in the office over the years but never hasd chance to visit, though I came to Rochdale itself a few times when I was young.

I've got full details for the graves they sent me, but one in particular, I think may have a grave stone.  I don't know about the others, so I'd only ask forr this one.  The first burials were Charlotte and John Showler.

Also, does anyone know if there's a War Memorial there?  The graves for the people I'm after won't be there, and if there's an easy way of finding a grave if you know the names and dates?

I know it's a big ask, so I won't be too surprised if noone can do it, but I keep looking at the papers and thinking, "I wonder...???"

Best wishes

Emms - I'm not able to help with a visit, but thought you might find this site of interest - the Showlers are listed

Hi mrshmrsh

Thank you for the reply.  So quick too!

I've actually seen the site thank you.  The two Showlers there are ours.  In fact I emailed Dave Ollerton once and he confirmed what I'd windered, that if the grave is on his site, there probably is a stone.

Also, if any of them had a stone, this would be the one I'd guess at as they were in business and some family were stonemasons.

That's why I asked how easy it is to find a gyou have a name and date, in case I can find any more.

Thank you for your post.

Best wishes

Hi Emms,

I visit Rochdale every fornight for a weekend but don't have a lot of time actually there, as I live in the Netherlands.
If you can find out a rough idea of where abouts in the cemetery to start looking( it is huge!) I'd be willing to go and photograph the grave for you. I think there is a war memorial there.....it's a long time since I visited it.

Karen

Thank you so much.  That's really generous.

I know you don't have very long here.  I don't know how you manage coming every fortnight any way, so imagine you're pretty well commited.  So don't feel any pressure at all., unless on a really nice day you really would like an outing.

I do have the full papers and maps with the graves close by as well.  I will post more details and pm you with the full lot  - I need to get the latest scanner commuting with the computer though!

I will have a look at the Crey's in amongst my own details too.  No concrete link but they keep appearing!

Thank you again.

Best wishes
