I am trying to find my unknown  grandfather   who may have been employed at Barrels Hall in 1913.
Anyone know any descendants of servants at Barrels Hall ?
My grandmother was Annie Pottle.

Hi,

 :)

Have you seen this website?  I would think it would be worth contacting them as they keep a village archive and they also seem to know quite a bit about Barrells Hall.  When I have contacted local historians in connection with my own research, I have found them really helpful.

If you like, you could post a little bit more about your grandmother (dates or anything you know at all) and maybe the Rootschatters could help you with your search.

Best of luck

Luzzu

Hi George, did you find any information? Barrells Hall is spelt with 2 "L"'s btw.

It was family's home (the Newtons) for three generations from 1861 - the mid 1920's so my ancestors would have been your ancestors employers.

I have many photos and articles on Barrells Hall itself. if you firnd anymore info I would be interested to hear about it.

Kind Regards

Edward

Edward,
Thanks for your email,
My mother is 96 and as far as we know her father was an employee at Barrels Hall in1913. She often wonders who he was.
My Great Grandfather was head gardener at the Hall at that time .We think my grandmother was in service somewhere else and must have become pregnant on a visit home ,she was 16/17 . The family never talked about it .
A cousin told us that Great Granfather asked for the father to be sacked but the owner of the Hall  refused ,In view of this we think he must have been a high up member of staff and highly regarded by the owner . G G left his job and the tied house which they lived in.So it was a life changing event inl ots of ways
Mother thinks she was fostered with someone in Leamington Spa but nothing definate, before coming to live with her mother when she married.
It would be nice to find some information but I think we have an impossible task.
I am going through family photos if I find any of Barrels I will forward them to you,
Thank you G P
