Glassford Kirk Sessions
« on: Thursday 12 November 09 12:36 GMT (UK) »
I can't find a reference to the Glassford Kirk Sessions in the NAS catalogue. The only records I could locate are the Minutes and Collections re Poor and Proclamations of Marriage 1766-1860 (CH2/463/2).

Are there no surviving Glassford Kirk Session records despite the fact that some extracts from them are cited in the Statistical Accounts of Scotland?

Is it my mistake or are they simpy non-extant? Does anyone have any information about this?

Cheers,

Rodeo

ch2/463/2 is only one volume (i.e. volume 2) of the Glassford KS records.  If you go to the NAS online catalogue search screen, enter ch2/463 in the reference box and click the search button, you will find a list of c. 20 volumes dating from 1693-1966.

Hope this helps you find what you want.

Many thanks, Margow. It was my mistake. I'd entered the wrong information in the search box.

All the best,

Hi did you have any luck accessing kirk records for Glassford? I couldn't make head nor tail of it..... I am just interested in finding out if my Gx3 grandmother is mentioned when she gave birth to an illegitimate child!

You cannot access Kirk Session records online - only the catalogue numbers. If you want to see what they actually say you have to go, or get someone to go, to the Historical Search Room in Edinburgh or one of the other places (Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness, Hawick) which have the link to the Virtual Volumes.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Apparently, there are plans for the kirk session records to be available online in 2017, following the re-launch of the ScotlandsPeople site in 2016. Yay.

See link below.
