Hi

You haven't given very much info.  I am assuming you are sure he did not die in infancy?

Who were his parents?   Did he die in WWI - have you checked www.cwgc.org

If not - did he marry?

Have you checked freebmd for a marriage for him?  http://freebmd.rootsweb.com

Have you checked the 1911 census at  http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

Hi
his parents were john bradley and kate bradley. I've only just found out his name was william stanley as on the 1911 census it was listed as stanley bradley but i ordered a birth cert and found out his full name
i'm really stuck with him. There are 2 marriages for william s bradley one in salford one in 1920 and one in 1931 but i'm reluctant to obtain the marriage certs as all this is becoming really expensive dont know where to go from here

Family History is not a cheap hobby and it all depends how keen you are to find out about him

You have a couple of options in relation to the 1920 marriage

Lancashire BMD shows that marriage as Christ Church Pendlebury to Florence Bell www.lancashirebmd.org.uk

You can either look it up at the Records office or you can apply for a copy via Salford Registry office and put a condition on it that you only want it if his second name was Stanley and his fathers name was John

If it's the wrong one - there is no charge

Re: the 1931 marriage - LancsBMD have not transcribed it so you would have to make an application to the GRO using the same conditions as above

They will charge a £3 search fee if it's the wrong one

Re: Lancs BMD

Turn up the entry and click on the reference number in the top right hand corner

On the next page - again click on the reference number

Print the prepared application form

Re: GRO application

When you get to the screen where you put the name of the person - scroll right down past Delivery Service and Number of Certificates until you see "Reference Checking Options"

Click on the brown box that says Reference Checking and put your condition on the next screen

Hi.

Is it ok to disclose who TomSher is please?  I'm William Stanley Bradley's granddaughter!  I'd also like to find out more, as my Dad's got a very scant knowledge about his family.  If possible, please contact me via this forum.

Thanks.

Hi.

Got your message, but assume that as I am a new "member", I've not got enough rights to reply to a message.......

Anyway - I'm his Granddaughter.  Stan, as he was called (William Stanley) was born and lived up in Salford and then moved to Birmingham, having married my Grandmother (Martha Ann Allcroft) in 1931.  He had 2 daughters (my Aunty Maureen and Aunty Pauline) when they were in Salford, and then my Dad (Raymond) in Birmingham.

Grandad Bradley, died on March 30th 1974 (when I was 2yrs old) and Nanny Bradley died (I think) in 1979. Since this topic was raised, I've been trying to find out about what looks to be a previous marriage to Florence Bell, but can't find out what happened to it, or her.  It would be really funny to find out that my Dad has half-brothers/sisters etc!  Aunty Mo is still alive (aged 77yrs) and lives in Sutton Coldfield (and has 3 sons), whilst Aunty Pauline unfortunately died in 1996 of a heart attack.  Uncle Barry still lives in Sutton Coldfield too, and has 2 sons.  My Mum and Dad (Ray) live in Devon now and I'm 1 of 4 kids.......

I'm now living in New Zealand, with a sister in Switzerland, a cousin living in Sweden, so us Bradleys have been travelling!

Hope this is the same William Stanley that you're talking about - you quoted the same birthday as him, so it sounds like it.

Please let's continue this chat, I'm really excited about this.  Our family knowledge is so sparse from my Dad's side.  What's your connection?

Thanks,

Liz
