William Popple Uppingham

we are looking for info on William Popple, Born 1766.  Father of Thomas Popple B 1780

William is said to have been born in Uppingham.

I have searched the Uppingham Parish baptisms on microfiche for the period 1746 to 1772 and I am sorry to report I could not locate an entry for William Popple in the period.  I went back as far as 1746 as I thought it unlikely that William Popple 1766 would have a son by 1780.

There is a marriage in the Uppingham marriage microfiche for a William Popple which is not in IGI. Although out of scope store it for reference.

28 March 1798 William Popple of the parish of Ashwell married Mary Mold (Mould) of the parish of Uppingham Source DE 1784/11.

No marriages for Thomas Popple or William Popple 1740 - 1800 in Uppingham that I can see.

Thomas Popple married Mary Winter, they lived around the Tugley area of Leicester/Rutland. Thomas' mothers maiden name was Pateman. Thomas and Mary emigrated to Australia abord the Abberton in 1844 and from memory had a large family including Betsy, Matthias, John, William, Thomas. In fact I have a copy of a letter written by Thomas Popples family in England to him in 1845. The Leicestershire/Rurland Family History Society has a copy of this letter which Micheal Billings transcriibed about 10 years ago.Lets know if this is the right family and you need anything more specific

Hi Thank you very much for that, this is the right family , we cant find anything further back from William Popple, b1766 who married Sarah (unknown) , Thomas Parents.  We had not not got the name of ths ship so thats a great find.  Thank you very much

I'm also looking into my Popple background - William's grandson, Jonathan Popple (married to Lementina Smith) was my 3x g-grandfather. Any info you can spare would be great.
