I am trying to find out the names of Archibald Cowie's parents.

Archibald Cowie was born in Cairnhill, Lanark, Scotland in 1790
He married Agnes Aitken in about 1813.
I have come to a complete dead end, i just can't find anymore information. I aam in Australia so it's hard to get information this far away from Scotland.
If anyone can help me i would be very greatfull.

Thanks
Sandy Cowie.

The marriage is recorded on SP and may mention his fathers name. Cairnhill was a small village on the outskirts of Coatbridge and Airdrie in the county of Lanark. Nothing shows on the OPR's as a possible Baptism for him.

Hi Sandy,
I think I am a distant relative of yours as we share the same great great grandparents.  I still live in Airdrie, in Cairnhill in fact, so some Cowie's don't move very far even if others do go to Australia.  I have a cousin who lives in Adelaide and emigrated over 50 years ago.

Just joined this site so don't know much about it, but you seem to have got such a lot of information, I may well join up.

Just started so am not allowed PMs yet.   I think the connection is this:-

My father was Robert, b. 1923, son of Archibald, b. 1882, son of Richard
b 1850, who is a brother of your George b. 1858, Archibald b 1848, John
b 1853, David b 1863 and who were all sons of Richard b.1814 who married Mary Ann Hay in 1841and that is as far as I had got until I saw your post re Archibald b. 1790 and Agnes Aitken.

I did not know my grandfather as he died in 1949  before I was born.  Yes, I would love to get any information you may have thanks.  I have not looked into the Cowie side of my family too much, concentrated more on my mother's side up to now.  I knew the hairdresser  connection and my father too went there in his younger days for haircuts.

I am also related to you and I have managed to trace the Cowie tree although I am always looking for more information.  Mags51 get in touch if you want to share Cowie info.  My line is through Archibald m Agnes Aitken then Richard and I can get you another generation back to 1770.

I meant to say that it was Richard Campbell Cowie,my Great Grandfather who owned the hairdressers.  My Dad often talked about it.  If your gandfather was Archibald Cowie born 20 Aug 1882, he actually died 27 Jul 1954.  I have an awful lot of information plus documents so get in touch!  I am sure we can help each other out.
