I have only just noticed this thread. My mother was in the Land Army (I have lots of photos to prove it ;D) it would have been nice to have had some sort of 'Thank You' from the Government.

She passed away about 10 years ago but I know she would have been very proud to have received a medal if she had been alive.

I can't see why they should not be issued with the 1939-45 defence medal, this would be the most fitting recognition IMHO.
Possibly try a campaign on forcesreunited?
I know they'll support the cause on there and they're well known for their campaigning.

e-petitions is an easy way for you to influence government policy in the UK. You can create an e-petition about anything that the government is responsible for and if it gets at least 100,000 signatures, it will be eligible for debate in the House of Commons.

I'm sure it was 500 signatures before the present Government were elected !!  :((

Yes, I heard on r4 that Cameron didn't like the idea!

I meant fr forums might start a campaign and with over 700000 sympathetic ears so to speak you could very easily propel such a petition along via this method.
