I believe the reason that the date of 3 June is given is sheer laziness by the e-petition "gatekeepers" who have just posted a bog standard reply set up ages ago. 3rd June was the very last date by which the government had to have an election under the 5 Year Rule. The fact that it has since been called a month early seems to have escpaed the numpty who stuck up that message.

But knowing civil servants I doubt they will re-open the petition until the 4th June now.

It clearly states that petitions will reopen for signatures upon the formation of the Government following the General Election.

They have granted an extension until 3 June - this is to compensate for the temporary closure of the petitions.

I'm no expert, Debbie, I just read the announcement giving it my full attention.  There's no harm in asking for clarification, but it's sad to see people throwing insults about when they clearly didn't read the announcement properly.

My grandmother was a Land Army Girl, it was part of what defined who she was for the rest of her life. She had such a close bond with the other Land Army pals that they kept in touch, visited, holidayed together for the rest of their lives until, one by one, they passed away.

Recently while on a trip home I visited my mums cousin, he always had a soft spot for my grandma, while there he told me just what she did as a land army girl, I had never realised until then how much hard work was done by these folks.
My grandmother was part of the corps that cut timber. They had to HAND saw trees, right at the level of the ground, none of this 3 feet in the air like the lumber companies do now. He told me a story about how the girls would have to walk over a mile from their camp to the logging site each day, and how on the way trucks full of prisoners of war would be driven past them. The POW's were being taken up to help with the work... but for some reason they got a lift while the land army girls had to hike.

Without the land army we wouldn't be where we are today.
