Completed-Help with Chorlton 1851 census please?
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 20:03 GMT (UK) »
I am not 100% chorlton is the area that the family will be living in but thats where the family live in a lot of later information but i have been searching for Peter Farran, Mary Ann Farran, Elizabeth M Farran and possible Mary Ann Farran (she was 12 in 1961 so should hopefully be on the 1851).

I have them in 1861 with two more children but not before this point, i have searched all of them and just cannot find them  ???.  I have even looked on the 1851 unfilmed Manchester census site and cannot find them on there either.

Mary Ann nee Swan should be around 23, born Disley Cheshire and Peter should be 26 born Manchester.

Is it just they are one of the lost records? Thanks for any help given.

Hi,

I think they have been transcribed as Fanara on Ancestry ::)

Reference is HO107/2221 folio 860 page 34.

Peter and Mary Ann are both transcribed as aged 24.  Hard to actually tell what Peters age was - could have been 26.

Regards,
Mo

Hi, I'm researching the Farrans. I just wondered if you had any further on Peter Farran (a.k.a John Peter) and Mary Ann Swann? I'm trying to find a birth record for Peter. Thanks.

Hi Dean, sorry i have no more information on them other than Mary Ann's death in 1870 was in Withington Workhouse where she was admitted and died within 20 hours of Typhus.

Baptisms i haven't found but i did find John Peters burial on FindMyPast, Manchester Ardwick Cemetery Sept 7 1881, John Peter Farran age 55 of John Street C-on-M (i presume Chorlton-On-Medlock), died of consumption.

He was neither buried in a family grave or a family vault and the grave number is unlisted.
