needing help finding John STEPHENSON
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 07:17 GMT (UK) »
i'm not sure if i have the right place for this as i dont really have much information to go by.,

I am searching for a john STEPHENSON who married a Mary Elizabeth ?
they had a child Sarah Houghton STEPHENSON in New Zealand in 1879 but i can not find a listing for a marriage in new zealand or australia. they also had 4other daughters and 2 sons in new zealand.

on their son's school records it is stated the reason for leaving school was "Moving to Australia"
this was in Nov 1892. as he would have been only 11 the whole family moved.

Sarah married a Charles Henry BROWN in 1899, Western Australia. and had 5 children there and 3 more in victoria, australia.

what i am wanting to know is where JOhn and Mary came from, what mary's last name was, how old they were, etc.

Hoping you can help me as i have hit a brick wall here.

cheers

Hi,
I think that because the child Sarah was given the second forename Houghton, there's a high probability that it was her mother's maiden name. Might help with the search for a marriage.  You have probably already tried searching for Stevenson and wild card variations as opposed to Stephenson?
Good luck,
