Harbison/Herbison
« on: Wednesday 04 November 09 17:11 GMT (UK) »
I am at a bit of a brick wall.  My great grandfather Gordon Harbison was born in about 1861 in Dungall area.  He married Nancy Ann McCullough in 1894 at the Cullybackey Presbyterian church, so I know his fathers name was Hugh.  He also had a half brother Samuel Wilson who erected a tombstone in Kirkinriola in memory of his father James and mother Elizabeth.  I know that an Elizabeth Kenny marries a Hugh Herbison on Dec 11, 1848 in Ballymena 1st presbyterian church and an Eliza Herbison marries James Wilson on 27 Feb 1868 in Wellington St Presbyterian Church.    I have had no luck finding out if these are one and the same Elizabeth/Eliza and I have also had no luck finding a death entry for Hugh Harbison or a birth/baptismal entry for Gordon.  The family was presbyterian and in 1851 Hugh and Elizabeth were living in Carnbeg Townland, Dunaghy Antrim.  Other family members were Thomas, Sarah, Matilda and Matthew.  Only Matilda and Matthew were born after Hugh/Elizabeth marriage, so I assume that Hugh had a previous marriage.  If there is anyone that can help shed light on this I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks
Alison

Hi,

IGI Record Search section of Family Search site lists a Hugh Herbison who died in 1866 in Ballymena Registration District. Vol1 Page 102. This should allow you to order a death certificate which may give more clarification.

Hello,
I am in search of Kenny/Kenney family from Co. Antrim, Ireland and found your post re: Kenny and Herbison. Thought you might be interested in this census Extract showing stepchildren named Herbison.
I believe James, listed as 5 years old here was my great grandfather.

Hello: I am very interested in the census abstract you posted. There is a "Moses Paul Kenny" listed as a child. Since I have done a lot of research on the Pauls from the Ballymena area I was wondering if you know if there is a connection between the Pauls and Kennys? I have established a connection between the Pauls and Herbisons.

Hello,
I haven't thought of looking for a connection between the Pauls and the Kennys--have been wondering where the name 'Paul' came from in Moses' name, actually.  The 'Paul' was also passed down to my grandfather, Moses McLintock Paul Kenny as well as my brother, Allan Paul Kenney so this is of keen interest to me.
Sorry I can't be of more help.  I will be looking into this!
Best Regards,
Sheri Kenney St. Amour

Hi: There was a Matthew Harbison (Herbison) in Leymore townland near Ballymena who was married to Mary Paul. She had a brother named Moses Paul and this is possibly where the name comes from. I have more details but don't know what the Kenny connection is. If you post one more message I will send you a private email. (3 postings allow you to do this). Thanks.

Hello,
I have Jane Herbison marrying John Kenny in 1840. I am confused as to whether Herbison is her maiden name as a couple of family trees have conflicting information. Could the Matthew Herbison you mention be her father? The only connection I can see to the Kennys is through this marriage.
Could you give me dates of Matthew Harbison (Herbison) and Mary Paul?
Thanks,
Sheri
