Hi,I've consulted the 2 Marnoch Kirkyard books produced by the Aberdeen & N.East Family History Society & although there are 4 graves with the surname Tocher mentioned, none of them refer to your John Tocher.

Bear in mind that the ANESFHS booklets are lists of inscriptions on gravestones, and that many people who were buried never had a gravestone.

I also checked the list of burial ground records in the care of Aberdeenshire Council, just in case there might be a surviving book from Marnoch. However no such books are listed on their web site http://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/bereavement/grounds_list.asp so it looks as if the Marnoch records, if any, have not survived  :(
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi DeeJayPeeCee
I am very interested in your reference to John Tocher d.1855. His daughter Jane b. 1976 in forgue parish married John Chalmers, both of whom are direct ancestors of mine. See my website,  http//homepage.eircom.net/~decfam  I would be interested in corresponding privately. I have marnoch kirkyard booklet. As others have said there is no stone recorded.
researching following names: chalmers, cheyne, hay, tocher, mundie, willox, barclay, esslemont, and others in Scotland also mullaney, barrett, spillane, lynch and others in Ireland and beckler in Germany
