I am seeking information about what became of Bertram William John PLANT, originally from Victoria.

He was certainly in Launceston around 1932, and according to family information was still there in 1945.

He was born in 1878, and may have been known as John or Jack.

Can anyone help?

A little more - the reason I searched the inquest index is that R PARK is Royal Park which was formerly known as a Hospital for Mental Hygiene and I have found that many deaths recorded in institutions in Victoria, often have an inquest recorded.

That was an inspired piece of detective work; thank you.

I certainly didn't know that he had married a second time (he divorced his first wife in 1932), so this has given some fascinating new insights into this particular branch of the family!

I wonder if Gwendoline PLANT went back to Tasmania after the death of her husband? Is there any sign of her having died there?

While this message is over 2 years old, and I assume you are  related to Plant through his first wife, I can fill you in on Gwendoline Batten's birth and family details, if you would like the information.  She was the daughter of a cousin of my grandmother.
I would also like to thank you for providing extra information for my studies, which are slowly being filled in.
However, according to Villa Carr index, she does not appear to have died in Launceston, and she is not obvious on the Springvale index in Melbourne.
Interestingly enough, she is not listed under the name Plant in the 1949 electoral roll for Victoria.

I happen to have access currently to TAMIOT 2nd ed (to 1998) which covers all cemeteries in Tas except Hobart & Carr Villa, so I checked it
Gwendoline is not recorded under either Plant or Batten.
Of course this is not to say she is not buried in Tasmania as this doesn't cover all burials, being inscriptions only
