Lisa of Cal.   , I really appreciate this help.   My oldest  record has James P. 's father as Elnathan, born 1799 and married to Margaret R. in 1822.    He was from or born Westchester, NY.    His Roots web ID is I48712.   This is where I am stuck.    Thanks so much

I'm not sure where to search for "early" records, but I'll have a look around.  (I don't have American ancestors.)

Just to confirm, you don't need further information for James or any of his siblings, correct?  You are just trying to find information for James' parents?

Yes,  I thought I would be challenged enough for now to just trace my line.   Thanks, I checked your link  and I'll need a little time to view that PDF.    You did correct me on Margaret's  middle initial. I had it as R not A and Did not know her last name.  Makes sense, Palmer, James's middle name.
