Laird of Cragganfearne Fleming
« on: Wednesday 09 March 05 20:45 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on Laird of Cragganfearne Fleming or his family.  He was born Athol, Perth.  He had one son I've found John born 1769 born Cragganfearne, Athol.

Any information on the Flemings would be appreciated.

Hi Ontchick

I too am looking for Flemings from Perthshire Scotland.  Mine immigrated to Canada (Madoc Ontario) in around 1840.

A John Fleming III from Perthshire came to Canada with his family.  I think John Fleming III was born about 1790 or so.  His son John IV (my G G G Grandfather) was born about 1820 also in Scotland.

Other children of John Fleming III included David, Robert, Elizabeth??

I do not know much and am seeking them??? Any fit with your Flemings by chance? ???

Hi Luv!!!!

Well it's hard to say if they are from the same branch or not.
I have a JOHN FLEMING b. 1794 at Cragganfearne  his children that I have so far are Ann 1834; Robert 1835; Catherine 1833.  There maybe more but so far I haven't found them  :(.

Most of the family seems to have settled in Grey-Bruce Counties in Ontario or the city of London area.  No doubt there are many out there I haven't connected with yet...lol.

I have an extensive tree thus far (about 41 pgs worth  :-\) and will do some more digging and see what I come up with.

Happy searching,  Ontchick

I live in New Jersey. I moved from Washington state. MY mother is the daughter of Helen Fleming. Helen was the grand daughter of James Fleming and Grace Robertson, who were born in Perthshire Scotland and immigrated over to settle in Ontario Canada. Springfield to be exact. James was the grand son of John Fleming b. about 1769 Cragganfearn Perthshire Scotland. Laird Cragganfearn Fleming being his father. I have suspected Cragganfearn's Christian name, his siblings and his parents, but I cannot quite make it fit. Parish records are giving me a different DOB, area and the land Cragganfearn (according to Jane at Blair Castle) was leased by an Alex Douglas and James Robertson. Names farmiliar huh? Families usually intermarried between each other and these names intertwine with the Flemings. I beleive that the reason why it is believed that, that land was in the family for three generations is because Laird Cragganfearn Fleming married into either the Robertson or Douglas line, therefore taking on the land and then later passing the torch(in a way) back to Laird Douglas (possibly a brother in law). Note that: Laird Douglas' two daughters married Fleming cousin's. Which leads me to belive that John had a brother or Laird Cragganfearn had a brother. I have been doing extensive research and have alot of information, but could use more. I would like to trade all my information on my line, for information of your line. I think we will end up finding that we are in some way distant cousins. I have FamilyTree maker and can email you what I have. Write back. Tahni
