i am descended from the Benjamin Hammett of dorset born 1816 died 1840 and was wondering if anyone would be able to give me any info on ancesters, i believe that benjamin may be James Hammett of the tolpuddle martyrs' brother

Hello, pleased to meet you! I too am descended from the same Benjamin who died after being hit by a runaway cart in M.A.!! Sorry to disappoint you but this particular line of the Hammetts are not related directly to the 'Martyr'. Benjamin married Jane Old daughter of John Old and after he died she married another Benjamin (Vacher). I have info relating to Benjamin's son William born 1838 and who married Ellen Stickley, heis my  GGGrandfather. Pleased to correspond.

benjamin hammett baptised 13th feb 1816 milton abbas dorset to parents william hammett and sarah.there are children listed for this couple at milton abbas and children for a william hammett and sarah at tolpuddle.i will list them both for you .
milton abbas -
maria hammett bapt 2nd sept 1813
sarah hammett bapt 1818
jane ann hammett bapt 21st april 1822

tolpuddle baptisms -
sarah hammett bapt 22nd march 1812
william hammett bapt 2nd april 1815
james hammett bapt 28th june 1818

benjamin hammett married jane old 30th jan 1838 winterbourne -whitchurch.brides father listed as john old and grooms father listed as william hammett.
