Hi Jan and a welcome to rootschat from me also

I note on your profile that you are located Melbourne. Many family history groups, genealogy societies and libraries have genealogical resources that would include CD's of the births, deaths and marriages for Victoria.
I think the online Victorian indexes are far better than the transcribed indexes you mention and the ability to purchase an image of a certificate online is wonderful, although at times, a little too convenient
You mention NSW, WA and Qld but omitted SA, NT and Tas who don't have their bdm's online, although you can use the Colonial Database on the Tas Archives which is limited to 1899.
I did most of my own family research from the Victorian online indexes. I purchased all the births, death and marriages pages with the surname. I am fortunate in that isn't a commonly occurring name. I think I spent around the $20 mark for the lot....and then I discovered the Diggers Indexes

The inclusion of the parents' names on both the birth and death indexes makes research so much easier than the site you mentioned.
As Jen has rightly suggested, start a new topic as those of us with resources will more than happy to help you.
Cheers
Cando
