This is perhaps a blind alley Picamarra, but in your family research, look for the name Campbell.  As a wee boy in the 40's, in Kilsyth, my next door neighbor's son was Comrie Campbell. I'm guessing he was born between 1930 / 1940.

As you probably know, first names were often taken from the surnmes of female ancestors.

Robert.

Hi Picamarra
I'm getting a bit muddled with these Comries!
I have a connection through the Neilson family.  My gr grandfather James Neilson had a couple of siblings who married into the Comrie family

James Neilson's sister Jean Rankin Neilson married Alexander Comrie d. 1.2.1922 whose parents were Peter Comrie and Jean Stirling.  After Alexander's death Jean (who had no children of her own) emigrated to Australia with her niece and husband, Agnes and Alex Gray, in 1926.

The other marriage was between my gr grandfather's brother, William Thomas Neilson and Elizabeth aka Lizzie Comrie whose parents were Daniel Comrie and Janet Burns.  I assume that Lizzie was a cousin of Alexander's but will have to follow up on this. They had one daughter, Janet Burns Neilson and also emigrated to Australia in 1912.  Lizzie died in 1946 age 76 in Melbourne.

Where does all this fit into your tree?  I'm sure it does somehow as some of the names and dates fit with the info your sister posted.
All for now

Thanks for that Anderson. I think I've used these sites in the past but it's good to be reminded of them.

Piamarra

Have you looked on the Commonwealth Graves Commission website for info on the death during WW2 in Tunisia?  You an find out dates and where the death occurred as well as download a certificate for the person concerned.

Hello Fiona ST. Firstly ,sorry I have delayed returning your last post, but we have been away. With regard to our shared details concerning the Comries of Kilsyth, I too get very confused at times! However the information I have ,with regard to your line of interest, is as follows:-
Peter Comrie and Jean Stirling b.1847 d 1923 (       My gg grandparents)  had 14 siblings, one of whom was Alexander b.1858  On 16-9-1886 Alexander married Jeannie Rankin Neilson, the daughter of Thomas Smith Neilson and Agnes Alexander (b.1866 in Lanarklshire.) As regards William Thomas Neilson and Elizabeth@Lizzie Comrie. Her father was Daniel Comrie b,1847 d.1923. In 1870 Daniel marred Janet Burns d,1913.They had the following 12 children-
1 Peter  1871 -1957
2 Robert 1873-1875 (2)
3 Elizabeth 1876  In 1909 she married William Neilson
4 Daniel 1878 -1902
5 John Burns Comrie 1880-1960
6 David 1883-1964  More to come!

Hi Picamarra
Thanks for clearing up my muddle over Comries! I think part of the problem was that there were so many of them.
Regards

My husband is also descended from Peter Comrie and Margaret McInnes, via their son Daniel (1832-1873). Daniel's daughter Margaret McInnes Comrie (1856-1948) was his great-grandmother.  She married David Reid in Kilsyth in 1881.
Do you know anything about Margaret McInnes's origins?  She is one of my many brick walls.
All the best
Angela
