McCurry/McCorry Help Please.
« on: Monday 26 October 09 12:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Just starting off my search in Ireland and don't really know where to start.

I have Joseph McCurry/McCorry (also just under Curry in England) born approx 1853 in the Parish of Lammey, County Derry according to the 1911 England Census.  He married a Mary Ann who was born aprox 1858 in the Parish of Maghara, County Derry. They had been married 36 years at that time making there marriage apx 1875.

When I first posted here someone came up with the following marriage:
JOSEPH MCCORRY TO MARY ANNE GIVEN 12-11-1874 @LAVEY R.C.CHURCH TERMONEENY
MAGHERAFELT,DERRY/LONDONDERRY.

It certainly fits the dates and I assume Maghara and Magherafelt are the same place?

They had two children born in Ireland. Margaret and Mary Ann. The 1911 census lists Mary Ann as being born in Priest Town in approx 1877.

Can anyone point me in a dirrection to find some more information? Or maybe an idea on how to get more information from the marriage.

Thanks in Advance,
Holly

Maghera and Magherafelt are not the same place but both are in Co. Londonderry. There is not a Lammey parish there nor a townland beginning with 'Lam'.
The marriage certificate should list fathers' names and occupations as well as exactly where the bride and groom lived at teh time of their marriage.
See index to civil registrations (search bride and groom separately then cross-reference results for match)-

See here for details on ordering certificates-

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi,
There are several townlands called LAMMY in Ireland but not in Co. Londonderry. The closest one is in the district of Cookstown, just south of Magherafelt.

Regards
Stewart, Irwin, Morrison, Haslett, Murrell - Dungiven area Co. Londonderry
Browne, Barrett -Co.Armagh
Neil, Smyth _Co. Antrim

Hi,

You posted as a reply to my message if you want everyone to see it maybe post it on the main board. My Joseph McCorry/M'Corry was married in Lavey, Magherafelt in 1874 but as yet have no further information to see if he connects into that family.

So you have no clue to Joseph parents. or grandparnets are then. Seen its not common name in Magherafelt we might be related as Spelling McCurrie McCorry McCarry or McCorry e.g.

If you find anything abt you family I well send you message.

For some reason my reply to this the day you posted didnt appear.

No at this stage I have nothing more on Joseph. I have sent off for his marriage certificate so I should have his fathers name in the next month.
