If someone can do 2 Death Notice lookups, they should lead to current family....

Thomas Hoyte Matthews died 13 April 1916 aged 59 yrs
Jessie Matthews died 11 Aug 1947 aged 90 yrs

Bren

I can do them ... will try this week or otherwise it will have to be next week.

Cheers

Hi Trenance,

I found this on "Paperspast" which may be the first time Thomas came to NZ.

I also see this on Ancestry

Hi,  thanks very much to everyone for your time and effort.
I think I've got enough to be going on with for now!!
I'd already found a marriage in Truro thanks, didn't think there could be too many Thomas Hoyte Matthews around!
It'd be interesting to know what made them go to NZ from Newquay, Cornwall (better surf?)

Fabulous coastline and countryside where we live in UK but what is appealing about NZ is only 4 million population.  Hope to be there Nov next year.

Thanks again.

Thomas Hoyte Matthews died at his late residence, 24 Dunedin Street, Ponsonby.   He had a private cremation (14th April) at Waikaraka before the public were informed next day.

Jessie Matthews died at her residence.  She was noted as the relict of the late T H Matthews.

Children were noted as:

Mesdames

Hart (Sydney)

Whitmarsh (Wellington)

Curtis (Onehunga)

Carson (Ponsonby)

Tomkin (St Heliers Bay)

and Will, Alex and Ern.

The service was held at her late residence which was 24 Dunedin Street, Ponsonby on the 13 August at 3pm before leaving for the cemetery.

Cheers

Hi, I'm at work!!
He was my grt grandad's older brother (about 20yrs age difference). They originate from Newquay Cornwall UK where I grew up. My family are still there but I live 120 miles away now.
Yes, we did get to NZ last Nov/Dec it was AWESOME but didn't manage to meet up with Roger in Wellington.

I'd love to hear about your side of the family. Roger sent me about his.  Angie
