Looking for family of Charlotte.
« on: Sunday 25 October 09 19:42 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone, I am hoping someone can help me find the family of Charlotte Martin, born 1878, Ballynahinch, County Down.  I am hoping to find her parents and siblings, I know from a letter that her father died in June 1901.  She moved to England where she married a Joseph McDowell also from Ballynahinch.  Appreciate any help.  Thank you Mabes.

Hello again, I have just found  the marriage of a sister-in-law of Charlottes, a Mary Lowry McDowell, recorded on the same site, it gives 2 records for the same date, the same bride and groom, but two different places of marriage.  One in Downpatrick Civil Registry Office the other Methodist Church, Ballynahinch, can someone explain why?  Thanks Mabes.

Only certain places/clergymen were allowed to perform marriages. You have't given the date but I suspect for that period the Methodist church was in this situation, therefore, the couple got married in their church but also had to be legally married by the Registrar.
Have the same thing in my family and in each case the marriage announcement in the local newspaper lists the church as the venue rather than the Registry Office.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
