It's extremely unlikely that the Old Deer Kirk Session records are on
the OPR film. The case of Rathen is a considerable oddity. Like all
the other K.S. records, they should be at the National Archives of
Scotland. Instead, it appears that they are next door, at the General
Register Office, and so got added to the OPR film.

I have heard rumours of other such anomalies, so would be interested to
hear from anyone who knows the whereabouts of any other Kirk Session
records which appear on the OPR films.

If the Old Deer records have survived, they will almost certainly be
with the National Archives in Edinburgh. I can't tell where you're
based, but if Edinburgh is too far away, it should be possible to get a
researcher to do the lookup for you. But be warned - the K.S. records
may well record an illegitimate pregnancy or birth, and it is quite
likely that the supposed father will be named, but the sex or name of
the child will almost certainly not be given.
