My mother Margaret Sloan worked for most of WW11 at the Bishopton ammunition factory, she never spoke much about it, few fond memories I think. Though when she died in 1978 we found that she had retained her daily rail travel ticket (3rd class) Motherwell to Bishopton, she certainly said what a dreadful daily journey this was.
I knew nothing about this until 1974 (my mum married in 1945 and moved to England where I lived) it came as a shock and surprise to my mum when I moved with my job to Scotland and settled in Bishopton for 2 years, I had never heard of it until I moved. My mum described the perimeter fence, gatehouse and entrance as it was in the war and when we took her to have a look it had not changed in 30 years
What sort of ammunition did they make, I wonder if there any records of people working there. Can anyone help with any information about the factory
