Thanks for such a rapid and promising response.  Time to hop over the border and look in Lynton.

We are meeting next week for a memorial of Ruth Hunter Leighton, William and Joan Latham's great x 6 granddaughter.  She would have been thrilled to hear of her Somerset and Devon roots.

I am descended from William Latham who presumably was born in England around 1822....I don't know his parents names or which section he lived but I do have a letter written to him from his father in law, John Adamson from West Leigh  in 1852...John Adamson's wife's maiden name, I've been told, was Alice Smith...

William came to Pennsylvania in America around 1830, becoming a legal citizen on September 27, 1844. He died on 3 December 1886 and is buried in Philadelphia, PA.

Some of his childrens names are, Alice, Sarah Ellen(or Ella) James and Hannah Margaret....

He must have married Maria Adamson(ca. 1822-17 Oct 1885) before 1844....

Was wondering if he too could be related to John Latham...

It seems that my ancestor WILLIAM LATHAM may have in fact been born in 1815 Leigh/Westleigh. We recently discovered that he came to the United States in 1830 aboard the ship BRUNSWICK that left from Liverpool, arriving in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on 12 July 1830, with his parents Harry and Hannah Latham.
When William's wife(Maria Adamson)'s father married Alice Smith on 10 June 1798 in Wigan, Lancashire, his witnesses were William Bancks and PETER LATHAM. Perhaps, Peter is also related to our Latham families.
