Hi i am  first of all only learning how to do this so please be patient with me.
I am trying to find info on john latham born 1810 porlock,somerset.
Parents were william and joan latham nee taylor, John ended up in tasmania how???
He also marrried Mary Williams 1842 but tasmania  have no records of the marriage, he later married mary oneil in tasmania.
I can't find him as a convict and i have no idea where to look if he was a passenger or if his parents were.
Hoping someone can put me in the right direction..Thank-you

Hi i dont really know that he married in 1842 as tassy info says that was the first child born there, so they go by that date, and i do not know if he married mary on ship or not.

Cheers Kaye

Welcome donagher :)
To start with all the info on the Lathams is submitted on the IGI and needs to be checked.

The actual marriage record, extracted,  is on;
 www.freereg.org.uk

William LATHAM
Joan TAYLOR
St Dubricius', Porlock, Somerset
10 April 1797
There is an Edward, possible brother, who marries 1799 and 1810 also.

Only child born to this couple William/Joan on this site is;
BETTY Latham, 01 December 1799, St Dubricius', Porlock

Checking with soundex we have;

LATHEM;
BETTY, 01 December, 1799
BETTY, 28 June 1801
EDWARD, 06 February 1803
JOHN, 12 April 1807
SARAH, 10 April 1808
JOHN, 17 June 1810 ( Twin Sons)
WILLIAM, 17 June 1810 (Twin Sons)
JAMES, 25 August 1811
All christened St Dubricius, parents William/Joan

I would say first Betty and John died and other children were named after them.
Possible deaths,
Betty Latham, 02 February 1800, Porlock
John Latham, 19 July 1807, Porlock
Oh, sad;
William Lathem, 04 November 1810, Porlock, infant- twin son.
And John , infant son-twin, as well same day.
Back to the drawing board I think .

Where did the info on John Lathams parents come from???

Trish :)

The John Latham who married "Mary Williams" in Tasmania is actually from Birmingham, and he married Mary Stanaway, which is the real name of "Mary Williams". I've done the family history of the Lathams, so if you want to know more, contact me. Gasser.

Welcome to Rootschat Gasser :)

How wonderful you have info on the Lathams.
Kaye/donagher will be pleased.

So he would have been Christened 04 Feb 1810, Bristol, Gloucestershire to JOHN/MARY?
John LATHAM Married Mary CURTICE, 26 September 1808, St Philip and St Jacob, Bristol, Glous?
(Extracted Records F/S Pilot)

After you have made 3 posts on here the Personal Messaging System will be activated and you can exchange email addys with Kaye.

Cheers,
Trish :)
