Smissen help
« on: Sunday 18 October 09 05:09 BST (UK) »
Can someone help me with my puzzle.
I would like to know if my GGGrandfather Edward Smissen born approx 1822 in Capel Le Ferne Kent who married Sarah Ann Crickett on 3rd Dec 1865 is the son of
Edward Smissen who married Jemima Jane Keeler.

Having trouble proving a link not sure of death year and having trouble finding Edward and Sarah together in census.

Edward and Jemima did have a son called Edward but he was born c1829 (not c1822) - are you sure yours was born c1822? http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,346654.msg2258779.html#msg2258779

Which of Edward & Sarah's children are you descended from (name/age/birthplace) to make sure we are getting the correct family?

This is the only Edward I can see with wife Sarah:

1871
RG10/1012/83/8 - East Brickfield Cottages, Hougham, Kent
Edward SMISSEN - Head - 42 - Capel
Sarah SMISSEN - Wife - 36 - Hougham
Eliza SMISSEN - Dau - 4 - Hougham
Thomas SMISSEN - Son - 3 - Hougham

His age matches the family in Casalguidi's link.

Sarah is on her own with the children in 1881, and there are 3 younger ones: Edward (9), James (6) and Benjamin (4).  There is a possible listing for Edward on the same census as an "unmarried" servant on a farm in Capel.

Deaths Jun 1883

SMISSEN   Edward         (aged 61)
Dover 2a 582

Thank you Casalguidi and Manchester Rambler.

Could be 1829 had conflicting dates of birth for Edward absolutely sure about him marrying Sarah Ann Crickett as I have certificate for this.  I am descended from Eliza Maria Smissen their daughter born 29/08/1866 Hougham Kent she is my great grandmother which I have confirmed with birth certificate of hers she married reuben Swain in 1890  which I have also confirmed with certificate and I think she died 1934.

Could this Edward Smissen then be the son of Jemima? as I have definetely got on his marriage certificate that his father was an Edward.

Assuming that Edward senior married Jemima prior to Edward's birth c1828 then I would say, yes, Jemima would be his mother ........

Susannah 15 b.Kent

thanks casalguidi.
I have Edward Smissen marrying Jemima on 17/11/1821 which I think may be the parents of my Edward who was born in Capel Le ferne Kent.

The other Edward charity Smissen born Alkam 23/4/1823 he was the one whom I think died 1883, his parents were George Smissen and Sarah Allen they also had 8 other children.

Therefore did Edward Senior die in 1859 and when did my Edward junior die as in census 1881 Sarah ann (crickett) was a widower?

Any help would be appreciated as there are too many Edwards.
