I lived at Westlake between 1941 and 1959.  The site of my house is in Stirling Park, Yarralumla - I have transcribed the Woden Cemetery Burial register - this is where this information is available.  I also heard the story many times about Eileen nee Leech.  Her brother died a few years earlier - he dived into the Acton Pool (Molonglo River) - supposed to be bottomless - and hit his head - broke his neck and died.  This is reported in the Canberra Times as well.  I have put my main web page below that has a basic list of people buried in the Woden Cemetery between 1936 and up to and including some of early 1960s.  The Cemeteries for the ACT are also on-line with less detail.

No 20 Westlake the site is near the fence of the American Embassy opposite where Darwin Avenue joins Perth Avenue. The site of the first twenty cottages is in the embassy area bounded by Darwin Ave Forster Cres and Empire Circuit. The sites of the remaining 41 cottages is in Striling Park and the old roads are still in situ.

At the top of this web on the home page is a link to Early Canberra which has articles from papers etc on early canberra and from memory - I put the story of the death under Westlake People in the Odds & Ends section  -

I will not be able to reply to any queries for a few days - computer being made well. Ann
