Many thanks for posting these. I believe the Taylor headstone is that of my great-great-grandparents. I really appreciate that you did this.

QUINN

Stone fallen over at the rear of the cemetery – was difficult to read summer of 2008 and one photo from Nov 2009, now virtually unreadable. Some one [not me] must have removed some moss from the stone as the top part was not visible last year.

Again, if anyone thinks dates are incorrect – please feel free to update.

Stone is an oblisk

Just registered on Rootschat and found this post:  Helen Thornton and Peter Chisholm are my 3 X Great grandparents.  Peter Thornton and Bridget Connelly are completely new to me.  Thanks Murphyz.  Any other Thorntons or Chisholms out there?

Stone still standing but very worn – I will not try the inscription but have noted below words which were visible and hopefully they will mean something to some one.

THORNTON

Erected by James Thorton
To The Beloved Memory of his
Father Peter Thornton
Died 21st Nov 1848 aged [all worn away]
And
His Mother Bridget Connelly
Died 1st Feb 1838 [stone worn at last number could possibly be 1839] aged [all worn]
Their Daughter [all worn]

James Thornton mentioned.
Further down there is a mention of a daughter Helen Thonrton died July 1875 [?]
Her husband Peter Chisholm death also on stone.

Sorry it is so vague. Non compressed file available if anyone wishes it.

McArthur - Stone Now No Longer Visible – unable to locate it October 2009

“Of your charity pray for the soul of
Joh  McArthur
Merchant Paisley
Died 19th Mar ------------ (the break in the stone) aged 28 years
James McArthur
Merchant Paisley
Died 4th June 1899  aged 68 years”

I tried to confirm the dates for James McArthur on SP, but alas I could not find a match, so if anyone thinks it is a different inscription, please update.
2024 changed James to aged 68 years, date to 4th and John died aged 28.
Possible match to a James McArthur, Spirit Dealer died 4th June 1899 4 Castle Street Irvine. Parents were James McArthur and Agnes McArthur nee McCrossan. Wife listed as Sarah Shields. Based on will listed for a James MacArthur at Ayr sheriff court. formerly 24 Oakshaw Street, Paisley, afterwards 4 Castle Street, Irvine, d. 04/06/1899 at Irvine, testate.
