Gold miner to Africa - HILL
« on: Friday 16 October 09 21:01 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out if Rowland Hill, born Minsterley, Shropshire 1868 emigrated to Africa, as he disappeared in 1900, leaving behind a wife and 3 children, I don't know where to look or even if it was Africa, it was a romour at the time that he went to mine for gold.  Anybody got any suggestions?

Parents were Mary Jane Hill born Atcham 1849 father unknown.  Rowland married Elizabeth Hughes born Llangynon 1869 Marriage Llanfyllin 1893.  Children born 1894 Elizabeth Hannah Hill, born 1897 David James Hill; born 1900 Rowland Hill.  Rowland Hill (c1868) was not on 1901 census or 1911 census, he seems to have disappeared although they thought he might have gone abroad.  Family were living in 1901 at Bryn Hyfryd Llangynog.

His disappearance has been a talking point for years, it would be so nice to find out what happened to him.  Thanks for your interest.

Hi there are a number of 'Rowland Hill' deaths at http://www.ancestor.co.za/search.asp  and if one of these is your Rowland, you can order a digital image of the death certificate
