Thomas Dolphin Marriage to Hannah Massey
« on: Thursday 15 October 09 17:08 BST (UK) »
I have a Thomas Dolphin B. 1845 at Birmingham who married a Hannah (Annie) Massey B. 1853 from Cheadle. I can find them both Pre 1871 and post 1881 census.

I cannot find their marriage or any trace of them between 1861-81.

They both feature on Public Family trees but I cannot access those  >:( even though I have credits! Trying to sort that one out with Ancestry.co.uk at the moment!

Can anyone help please.

Thanks Jackie I have that certificate, That Hannah Massey was born in Dudley as was Thomas and it shows both parents deceased, but we know that Thoma's father was alive and well, died 1920's.

There is another marriage at Cheadle in 1873 with another Hannah Massey but the groom is not Thomas Dolphin :-) Another 3 quid down the drain!

Thomas's brother William and his Uncle John both joined the 12th Royal Lancers, I am wondering if he went the same way hence his disappearance and the marriage could have been anywhere where the regiment was based .... The regiment archives are at the Derby Museum. If all else fails may look in that direction as a last option.

Unfortunately that marriage gives Thomas a date of birth of 1852, wrong occupation, also on his childrens birth certictae it shows Hannah Massey as mothers maiden name.  :(

Hello Cassy,
Indeed we are, Thomas was my grandfather b.1890 and his sisters are as you say. I have just sent off for some marriage and birth certificates for Sarah & Minnie. They also had a brother David William Dolphin who's past I have yet to delve into but I have his birth certificate. I am liaising with a lady from Solihull trying to find out when Thomas b.1845 and Hannah Massey b.1853 were married and where? They are proving very elusive but we are able to say beyond doubt that the male lineage goes way back to the 17th century. Perhaps you would like to email me and I can give you more detail. Where do you fit into the tree? Our Great grandfather was born 1845 in Aston Birmingham and his father was born in Tanworth in Arden in 1802.
Regards TD
