Army Death
« on: Thursday 15 October 09 16:13 BST (UK) »
I have been trying to find a death registration for Edgar Charles Stacey born 1880 in Scotland and apparently died a soldier in c1896.  He was attached to the 45th Derbyshire Regiment of Foot and I think around that time they were sent to Ireland.  I have looked on FreeBMD and Army death's around this year but can't find anything (unless I missed it!!).  I have also looked for him after 1896 as being alive but no luck either.

Does anybody have any ideas on where to look now?

On the LDS site there is a death of an Edgar Charles Stacey in the first qr. of 1897 aged only 16 which ties in with your information. He died in Naas Co. Kildare where the largest military base is located[ in the Curragh ]. With this little piece of information you may be able to get a death record from Kew always assuming that this is your relative.

Index to Irish civil registrations is on LDS Pilot site and shows the following:
Edgar Charles STACEY death Apr./June 1897 Naas registration district volume 2 page 714 (age 16). With these details you can order a death certificate but there may not be much details- birthplace and date, names of parents and place of burial will not be listed, cause of death may just say 'result of an accident.'
