On 1881 census living at 55 Westmorld St, Caldewgate, Cumberland

Her age is slightly out but is the only one I can find born Gamblesby.

                  I am tracing the Bates family from Carlisle and i was just looking at Thomas Bates in 1881.Wondering if he was one of my Bates? When i also spotted you looking for Mary Thompson,have you any info on T. Bates,and did you find her birth?

I've not made much progress with finding where Thomas Bates was born apart from it was Ireland, but this is what I have so far:

Thomas Bates b.1845 Ireland married Mary Thompson b.1844 Gamblesby in 1873 at Carlisle
children were:
John J. b. 1874  Mary A. b.1877  Matthew b.1880
and
Thomas Bates b.1878 who married Beatrice Cotton b.3.11.1887 - living in Stockport, Cheshire
children were:
William  b.27.7.1911 married Elizabeth Ann Clarke
and Thomas who married Margaret Burgess
