TIMMIS St.Johns. Richmond Surrey COMPLETED

Hello Folks,
Looking for Arthur (father not known) possible son of Elizabeth ( Lizzie) TIMMIS christened/baptised approx 1864/5 in St.Johns church Richmond Surrey.

This is regarding new information received and may be a big hammer to knock down a long standing wall .

Thank you CaroleW it may well be.
My recently received  information is that Elizabeth TIMMIS gave birth to an "Arthur" in Richmond 1864 and an "Ernest" in  1867 neither birth mentions the fathers name which seem to fit with the two brothers I'm looking for.
By 1871 they were both known as ROBINS.The link tells the story from 1871 but the in between years are a mystery.
I'll send off for this certificate to make sure the father isn't named.

Just browsing freebmd - the Timmis surname seems to be very prevalent in the Cheshire & Stafford area which would support the 1871 entry where both boys were in Staffordshire

I can't see any census entry for an Arthur Timmis b Surrey in that year and there is no death in that area so it looks a good possibility that he was Arthur Timmis

I have also found this birth which may fit with Ernest who was 4yrs old in 1871

I've just received an email confirming Arthur was Baptised on June 4th.1865 following his birth on 17th.June 1864  at St.Johns church  Richmond Surrey. Mother a singlewoman Elizabeth Timmis.

Yes you are correct about Ernest . Also born to a singlewoman Elizabeth Timmis in Birmingham.

Elizabeth Timmis also had a daughter Ann born illegitimately around 1859. Elizabeth later married a William Austin and had five children with him.(Oh no, another branch of the tree ! )

Now all I have to do is find out what happened between 1867 and 1871 to change the boys names from Timmis to Robins. Adopted perhaps ?

I had already checked freebmd for a Timmis/Robins (Robbins) marriage but nothing came up

I thought mum may have married before 1871 but didn't reckon on it being William Austin.  Like you - I wonder why Robins when there is nobody of that name in the same household.  Perhaps it was to throw new hubby off the scent!!

She married in December qtr 1866 under Timmis which rules out a prior marriage - particularly as Ernest was only born earlier the same year

Sounds like either new husband didn't want the children or even worse - didn't know about them

Looks like William Austin moved into his father- in- laws house with his new bride. Elizabeths first child Ann seems to be living in the house but the two brothers are missing.
I see the farm has shrunk from 114 acres to 20.

Started to dabble in the black art of DNA to try to get those bricks falling. After two more years today I got a match with a possible fourth to sixth cousin...not particularly remarkable...I get these frequently but always on my maternal side. Todays match is only with myself and my brother which is very unusual and I wondered if this was a paternal match.
The matching cousin has a family tree on Ancestry ( I know, treat it with a pinch of salt ) but his great great grandmother was Elizabeth Caroline Louisa TIMMIS (not the one mentioned in earlier posts ). The tree is unsourced but the dates fit with intriguing gaps . Here we go again
