Lydd Parish Registers
« on: Tuesday 13 October 09 06:22 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I found in another forum that a member called lisingreece was willing to do lookups of the Lydd Parish Register.

I am trying to find the parents of Richard Austen/Austin born 1774 in Lydd.  He married Ann Longley in 1797 in Lydd and they had about 12 children.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Sorry AnDcarred,
I have looked for Richard Austen/Austin born in Lydd and I cannot find him. I cannot see an Austen family around this time in Lydd. There is a Longley family but have not found Ann.
I will bear this in mind and will look again when in CCA next month.
All the best

Hi Lis,

Thank you so much for doing this lookup.  Even though you didn't find them it has given me a good clue as I had found an Austen family in another Parish who could well turn out to be the right ones if there were none in Lydd at that time 8) 8).

Hello Andcarred,

I see that you are interested in the Austen/Austin family from Lydd, Kent, in particular Richard Austen & his wife Ann Longley and their ancestors.  I too am extremely interested and have been a member of ancestry uk tracing our family tree for the last several years.  Richard & Ann's son Richard is a direct descendant of mine (my Mum's great grandfather on her mother's side).

I was sent the microfiche (had expected print outs) which had been on order for 2 months, but unfortunately when I was at the library the other day, I found that so many of the pages were illegible - either too faint or hard to read the handwriting.  I am very curious to determine the parents of Richard Austen (1174-1849).  I too (like your researcher) was unable to find any Austen/Austins for this earlier time period.  There was a Richard Austen born to 'Edward Austin' and 'Mary Drapyer' in 1774 in Staplehurst, Kent but that same child was buried in 1774 (the same day as the baptism).

Have you been able to find out any further information?  Which other parish were you thinking he may have come from?  I would very much like to help in any way if I can.

Regards,
Tracey

Hi Tracey,

I am so pleased the microfiche finally arrived but what a disappointment to find it was not easily readable. :( :(  Do you think it is the result of poor filming or that the original records were very hard to read?  I am not familiar with the technology but maybe there is a microfiche machine where you could blow up the printing to see if it is any easier to read.

Obviously whoever has done the microfiche had access to the original records.  Maybe the only solution is to go back to the original records if they are available.  I think the Mormons might have filmed these registers so will make enquiries but it will probably have to wait until after Xmas now before I get a chance to order the film.  It may take some time to come from America.

I feel the Austens have been in Lydd for a very long time and would be surprised to find that they were in another parish.

Cheers from a very hot Brisbane,

Carol

Can anyone please advise me who were the parents of the Ann Longley who is referred to in the various posts?

I wish to determine if she was the daughter of William Longley and Elizabeth Horne (I believe that their children were: William, John, Susannah, Mary and Sarah) and granddaughter of William and Susan Longley (I believe that their children were: William, Mary, Elizabeth, Ann, Sarah and Catherine).

Thanks for any help that can be provided.
