Going back to the1901 census:  the term 'Grandchild' was not just reserved for real grandchildren back then - it could be that they were related in some other way.

Remember Duncan b abt 1796 Fortingall married to Betsy Hunter?

Just been looking at IGI and found a birth of a Duncan McGregor in Fortingall, its the only Fortingall birth in the dates I searched by 1796 +/- 2 years, it has given parents names as:

Malcolm McGregor & Margaret Willson

think this is the right one :-\

Looking back at your reply #56, it looks as if that Duncan died between 1861 and 1871 so you'll be able to check his parents from a death cert  :)

Haven't found anything that looks promising so far!

However, remember that he was born circa 1816 from the 1841 and 1861 censuses.

It might well be that his baptism  is missing for some reason.

Need to go back and find the naming pattern of his children - might give us some clues.

Added :

Quote
Alexander 14
James 12
John 10
Mary 7
Margaret 5
Betsy 2

So it might be that father was Alexander and mother was Margaret
