Hi Lorica

I presume this is an ancestral line from Isabella back to John?

What additional information are you looking for? Do you want to go forward or back or look at siblings?   Do you have them on the 1841-1901 censuses? This would give information about their occupations and children, etc.

The marriage certificate of Angus to Mary Ann would give his mother's name and thus the wife of Angus (b. 1834) and, if this Angus married in 1855 or after, his marriage cert would give his mother's name and thus the wife of John. Similarly, with Isabella's and Angus, jnr.'s birth certs and John's death cert.

These BMDs and censuses can be found on the Scotlands People site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk  It's a pay to view site but very reasonable - e.g. an index search and a view/download of a copy of a cert. would be 6 credits (=£1.20)

Hi Gadget

Thanks for the reply. I want to go both forward and back looking at the family and also looking at siblings.

I do have some census unformation but struggling to find the family in 1861-1901. But working on it!! The family in 1841 are living in Logierait. Gradually putting bits together, just taking time....

Thanks

How sure of the dates/places are you? I don't see an Angus M*greg*or born in Perthshire between 1865 and 1870 on SP .

Do you have any of the birth/marriage certs?

I have seen the 1841 Census (Ancestry.co.uk) for Logierait

John McGregor b1796 Place of Birth Just says Perthshire he was a miller His wife was Christine b1801.

John and Christian McGregor Married August 18th 1816 in Kenmore

Their children where (according to Census)
Janet abt 1801    (July 12th 1817 - Kenmore)
Duncan abt 1821    (February 16th 1824 - Kenmore)
Alexander abt 1828    (August 7th 1827 - Kenmore)
Cathrine abt 1831    (August 10th 1829 - Kenmore)
Elizabeth abt 1833    (January 8th 1832 - Kenmore)
Angus abt 1835    (February 12th 1834 - Kenmore)
Margaret abt 1837    (December 10th 1836 - Kenmore)
James abt 1827

New Child.... Christian McGregor April 9th 1819 - Kenmore

Perthshire is listed as place of birth. I have founded a Census return for an Angus abt 1834 born in Kenmore. He's at Uni In Edinburgh studying "Literacy Student of Medical" Recorded on return as a Lodger.

In the same house is another McGregor Called Alexander abt 1828 also born in Kenmore also at Uni
The ages seam to fit, and place of birth is a possibility. Don't know what you think. I also have evidence from the LDS, the birth of Angus Snr parents names are the same the birth was registered in Kenmore born on 12/02/1834.

Will check my other details.

Hi

I think the best thing is to work back from what you know - i.e Isabella's parents from the marriage cert and then their parents from their marriage certs etc. and fill in gaps from censuses and other BMDs.

Do you know for sure that the 1841 family are yours?

Interesting Development.

I have just been looking at some printout copies of marriage registrations and the 1841 census.

The 1841 Census I used to prove that Angus snr's parents were John x Christian/Christina
(For some reason cannot attach copy of census) (Logierait C1841_376_00_011_000_2_007Z)
I looked at their children and the one that I was led to believe was Angus, looked more like Augus or August.

I also looked at Isabella's Marriage entry and Angus looked more like Augus, also the same with Angus's marriage entry Angus looked more like Augus. But the heading on the copy I have from Scotlandspeople says Angus McGregor.

So does Angus = Augus = August? Need to dig deeper!

I would think that it is Angus.   An n can look very much like a u when handwritten.

PS - can you just do a small snip of the census and attach here. You aren't allowed to put up a full page because of copyright.

Your McGregors were neighbours of my ancestors in Mill St Aberfeldy. The men worked in the Mill which is now a tourist attraction. The workers' houses in Mill St still exist.
You need to check the birth dates of the children you are quoting because they differ from what is on Ancestry for 1841 and the actual dates on SP..
The family are still in Aberfeldy 1851 with parents' place of birth being Kenmore..The father may have died pre 1855.According to SP the mother Christian McGregor nee Campbell died 1862 Aberfeldy. She is in the 1861 census on SP but not on Ancestry. The couple married in Kenmore in 1816 with the first child Janet born there the following year.
Hope this helps
