A copy of his marriage certificate should include his parents names his age and where he was born.

Bit More,

on the 1878 NSW Electoral Roll for Tenterfield, and at polling place of INVERELL - there's

Henry GARNETT of Swan Vale, and also Andrew GARNETT of Swanbrook...

I'll try to find them on 1870 and on 1903 rolls....

Cheers,  JM

Bit More,

(remembering it was NOT compulsory to enrol, but that 1903 NSW rolls included for first time, women aged 21 and over, and there was no longer any "property" requirements to be eligible to enrol, also neither the AGE of elector nor if married/single/divorced etc indicators were ever noted )

1903 NSW Inverell polling place....  Susan, I'm not sure if these surnames have any bearing on your chap)
GARRATT, Elizabeth, domestic duties, at Inverell (no street address shown)
GARRATT, William, senior at Greaves St , labourer
GARRETT, Catherine, at Arthur St, domestic duties

Cheers,  JM

Hi Jenn,
I have tried BDM but only find George FW Garnett from Braidwood - he is definitely not my George this has been confirmed by his death certificate D.O.D 23/4/1924.
I will consider the Transcription Agents if I don't come up with anything else, after a bit further research by myself and helpful RootsChat people.

Hi JM,
Swanvale and Swanbrook is definitely within the general area, I have not heard of these names before, did you notice if there were any ages against them on the records?
Not sure about the Garratt or Garrett but check with others in my family to see what they think
In relation to Louisa; I have found an excellent link to her ancestors @ http://www.phillips.sheather.co.uk/_sgt/m8m2s6_1.htm

Thank you both for the information
Susan

Hi Susan,

The rolls never include their ages, sorry, I have posted all the address that was shown on those rolls... realising that the local returning officer would basically have recognised each person as they came to the polling place to vote...  The 1903 roll was the first to include females, and was also generally considered to be the first without any property requirements..., alas I did NOT spot any with an "N" for your George's surname... BUT, the documents I have are NOT keyword searchable, and so it is a matter of trawling from polling place to polling place...  I only looked at the polling place near Inverell... could be others here at RChat who can help further... but I'm not sure..

Cheers,

JM

Sorry Susan,

"N" as in Garnett, I only found Garratt, etc, I did not find GarNett etc....  -  I am still learning, and here on the Aussie Board at RChat there's many very experienced contributors...  I apologise for my badly worded post...  ;)
Cheers,

JM
