Death - James Stewart

I am stumped and wonder if anyone can help me find a death certificate for James Stewart or suggest a line to follow.
James Stewart married Margaret MCNaughton 3/1/1845 in Edinburgh.
According to the birth certs of their children James (1846), John (1847) and Jane (1849) and the 1841 census he was a printer. He was born in Midlothian around 1815 (1841 census he was 26) I'm hoping a death certificate will help me there.
At the 1871 census Margaret was a widow living in Edinburgh describing herself as "formerly a printer's wife" so his death was prior to that and post the 1848 conception of Jane.
Any help would be appreciated.

hi Magian
the 1851 and 1861 census could help narrow down a death date

have you tried scotlands people as it is not perfect as some records are missing, the only thing is james stewart is so common but you have pretty good dates to go on there.

James Stewart had a son Joseph who was tranported to Australia under the alias goodwin. He was tried in Edinburgh for theft.
He lived in Blair street with his brother. Would someone with the same connection please email me and we can swap information
about our relations.

Hi Sheryl
When you say James Stewart had a son Joseph - which James Stewart is this? Is he the son of James and Margaret (McNaughton)?

Yes he is, I have been tracing joseph and his convict past for many years. I discovered that these are his parents as put on his convict papers.
