Thanks shellyesq and merjones  for all your help
:)
Yes it appears he was definately an Alderman rather than a Mayor. So I guess the info may have had a dose of "chinese whispers" on route back to Wales ;D ;D ;D

Kind ragards,
Maidmarion

Have been looking up all the info given in the links, i havent been able to find info on Peter being an alderman.

I have found the birth certs of Harriet jessie Evans and Alice elizabeth evans

havent been able to find the births of (*)
evans and Marshall Kent evans but i know they were born in 1913 and are twins.
Marsahll died in 1954 and is buried in ft rosecrans national cemetary, dont k now if he was married or had children
(*) is the informant on her father Edwins death cert  in 1949 and she is single at that time, he was cremated in south lawn crematory

on harriets death cert in 1955 it stated she was divorced and her spouse is named as Russell Hamilton but can not find any marriage records, she is buried in Double Butt cemetary

Cannot find any death records for Louisa ( peters wife)

any help would be really appreciated

All the articles I found referring to Peter as an alderman was on subscription sites.  However, there does appear to be some mention of him here:  http://www.scribd.com/Penygelli-School-Teachers/d/21983607  This includes the listing from the directory I gave above.  It also states that a book says, "He later became Mayor of one of the States of America, three times."  This makes no sense on its face, as the head of a state in the US is a governor, not a mayor.  So, clearly, there's some confusion in that book.

There is a brief mention regarding funeral services for Edwin H. Evans in the 12 May 1949 edition of the Tuscon Daily Citizen. It indicates that Edwin was survived by two daughters, Joan and Mrs. Dotty(? I think that's what it says - it's difficult to read)Betty* Abrams and a grandson all of Tuscon and "a brother in New York".

*Looked at it again and I'm 99% sure it says Betty. Sorry for the original incorrect information.

Hi Shelleyesq and Jacquie,

Thank you so much for the information, I did try looking for Edwins obituary in the paper but no matches could be found so frustrating!! however i did find an obituary for his youngest daughter but when i tried to acces the full notice it took me to the newspaper page i entered the date 3rd oct 2004 which is when it appeared and nothing came up
if anyone can somehow find the full notice or put the link up i would be very grateful her name on the record is
Alice "betty" elizabeth Evans Lundquist

will keep trying and see if i can come up with anything else.
many thanks
