Look up Acomb, St. John Lee, Potts
« on: Thursday 08 October 09 23:44 BST (UK) »
Hello Board Members,

I am looking for some help.  My GGGGrandfather was William Potts, b. 1778, Acomb (according to later Census reports).  He married Ann Leadbitter in 1805.  I am trying to find William's parents and siblings.  I have DNA connections that we are trying to connect.  Any help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Jim

Hi Jim, the family record search:

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#

has 2 baptisms for a william potts. one is 1786 christening in Hexham to a John Potts other is 1774 christening in Christchurch, tynemouth to john & Mary potts.
hexham one more likely.
 have you checked the BT's?

Hello Diddy,

I really appreciate the help.  Isn't it weird that the same names married each other in 1848?  I think that must be a mistake.  I have seen the 1805 records and their son (George) born 1809 is my direct ancestor.  He marries Jemima Slater in 1835.  They must move to Longbenton where they have children including my Great Grandfather (Edward) in 1839.  Finally they end up in Easington (George  in Dalton le Dale).  I have DNA connections within 8 to 10 generations that can trace their families to Cumbria then to Haltwhistle.  I have George (1861, 71 etc.) in Durham with a nephew from Alston Moor.
Just trying to make this connection.
I like the way you work,

Jim
