« on: Tuesday 06 October 09 15:41 BST (UK) »
I have an ancestor Elijah Craven born about 1751 He married a Mary Barwick at Kildwick Parish Church in 1780 He is also buried there. I cannot find any trace of a birth or parents of these two. Any help or advice greatly appreciated. His marriage stated he was from Sutton in Craven

I have searched  the Kildwick 1678 to 1789 registers which include Sutton,
the Craven family are mentioned throughout I see your man's family -

William Son of Elijah Craven of Sutton Weaver and Mary his wife 2nd Jan 1781
Sarah in 1782, Thomas in 1783, Elijah in 1785, Martha in 1786, Judith in 1788.

 - but no mention of Elijah's birth. Do you know the name of any of his siblings ?

Regards Oly

Thanks yes that is the family unfortunately no I do not have any brothers or sisters. I am beginning to think he came from out of area but question is where? The Craven family is vast and appears all over Yorkshire but making the connection with Elijah has so far alluded me. There is an Elijah Craven born Thornton Bradford 1746 I keep wondering if this is him Not far from Bradford to Kildwick

Hi I am looking for Abraham Craven son of William and Mary d of James Robinson.  He was christened 7 Sept 1797 at St Andrews Keighley (taken from transcript of parish records held in Kly library).  Abraham went on to live in Thornton (census info) Would welcome knowing about his parents; I looked for their marriage in St Andrew's register, but did not find this.  A link with Haworth seems very possible as the register shows 'of Newhouse' as their residence (Newsholme / New House in Oakworth / New House in Oxenhope.  Would love to know more of the William Craven and Mary Robinson families!

I cannot tie them in at the moment. According to the census on Ancestry Abraham was born in Thornton. The baptism of Abraham in Keighley shows on LDS (extracted record) but shows the father as also called Abraham not William with mother Mary Robinson

Hi I have Abraham on most census on ancestry showing Thornton as place of birth.  However in 1871 census he gives Keighley. As I live in Kly I looked in parish records in library the other day and found the 1787 christening at St Andrews (the parish church) with William and Mary as parents.  I used the LDS marriage to Dinah Drake in Bradford St Peter's in 1823, and Dinah shows in the ancestry census records.  Also Nanny Drake is living with them in 1861.  I could not find a marriage for William and Mary in the right time scale in the Kly register though.  Would welcome your thoughts
